Title: Magicka (PC)
Post by: Poopyhead pianoman ♫ on August 07, 2011, 02:51:59 AM
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/8556/

Just watched a review on it. Supposed to be rad fun with 4 people playing in co-op. You play a mage who gets together with some other mages to defeat some other evil mage, but there is no limit to your magic, so it's basically a magic spam game (makes me think back to other games with unlimited ammo). This is balanced by an interesting spell mechanic where you command 8 elements, I think, (e.g. earth, water, fire, electricity.. heart? and a couple of others) and can combine them into many types of spells.

E.g. Combine fire and earth to shoot a cannon ball; dry your wet body with fire, or; combine fire with the arcane booster to shoot laser.

Anyone interested?

Can buy the base game for $10 USD or the base game + all expansions for $25 USD.

I can't see how to determine the PC requirements of the game. Does anyone know how to find that information on Steam?

Click on the actual game in that list of products in the pack. The system requirements are at the bottom.

I might be up for it. I ended up shelling out $20 to get Diablo because my roommates copy was shot to hell, so I just want to make sure we actually play.

I have the game but my laptop can't run it.

Thanks, found them. I also bought my own copy of Diablo II + Expansion set so I could have my own copy. I will definitely play this with you. And I'm assuming lanky is still going to play.

I have the game but my laptop can't run it.
It might just be out of my laptop's reach, too. My processor runs at 1.67gHz but is a Core 2 Duo, and my graphics card is GeForce 8400 instead of 8800. Still, I want to play. What are your laptop's specs?

Okay, I'm down. I've spent more on less.

Good Game recommended Magicka, which is the same TV show that recommended Minecraft, so I trust their opinion. Good, good, good.

Now I just need to buy a new laptop.

[edit]: I've been watching Yogscast play Magicka and in addition to more laughing out loud I'm more  convinced of this game's multiplayer fun.

They had the four pack on special today for $7, so I just bought that. Once you get a new computer, PM, I can just send you a copy. Plus I have two more for anyone else interested.

Kewl. I have a new computer, although it's a very cheap, interim computer. It might be able to run Magicka.

So the four-pack was four copies of the same game for just $7 total? That's awesome.

Yeah. I saw later that it doesn't have any of the extras, but still an awesome deal.

Send me your Steam account and I'll shoot you a copy.

From memory, I was watching the base game on Youtube without any of the extras.

*sigh* You've finally convinced me to install Steam, and all it took was $1.75.

Do you still have these copies or have you given them away?

Yeah, I have three extras.

I finally actually played the game. You weren't kidding. That's good times.

The spell system is really, really interesting.  It took me a bit to figure out what was going on, but once I did, it was on. I think one could play for a long time and still discover cool combinations.

:D
That's whut I was talking about. I loved the possibilities. Although the Yogscast haven't done anything interesting in a long time, I did crack myself up watching their Magicka playthrough.

I'll get up to speed so I can join you. Once I have the computer, all we'll need is a national broadband network to support a good connection between us. It shouldn't take too long. Jokes, I'll get a computer soon...

Ha!

Yeah, I just accidentally discovered, on the third level, how to create new spell elements that I didn't know existed. Very cool.

I have a couple of badass beam and shield spells that deal with single enemies and groups of enemies respectively in a very satisfying way. There's a heavy implication that not all enemies are created equal though. A touch of arcane really spices up a spell, but I assume it's not going to help much when I hit undead enemies.

I think that's why it looks so cool. It makes you feel like the wizard combining the magics on his own to create these different spells and effects.

I got stuck at the end of the third level. The boss is really hard. I'm sure there's some basic strategy I'm missing.

Is it a dragon? I saw him. He was hard.

Just a few wizards.
