Nether portals
« on: August 02, 2013, 17:03:07 PM »
Hey Super, the nether portal i made in my castle links to the one you've made at the redstone facility when travelling back from the nether, rendering it almost useless.
Considering not bothering with one in my castle due to this.

Stupid nether portals.

I've dealt with finicky portals before. Let me know where yours is and I'll make them match up right.

will do, when next i'm on.

I've become somewhat obsessed with Kerbal Space Program, and my mate and i have gotten into Warhammer 40K table top gaming, so my time's being divided further than usual.

Awesome. There's probably a block of netherrack blocking the exit it's supposed to use. I double checked the redstone facility one and it matches up right on the coordinates.

Me too!

I've been posting a lot of the table top games I've been playing here. Everyone here has been very nice and pretending to be interested. Except Cider. She hits me.

Actually, now that I've played a bunch of those table-top games, I'm not pretending anymore. Ticket To Ride, Settlers of Catan, etc. I STILL haven't played Carcassonne, despite having bought it like 6 months ago!
LOL @ Pam... if I had $20 for every time someone used that word with me... well....

I'd probably have like $60

I built one in the nether that should line up to any portal relatively close to the center of your tower.

The coordinates are lined up with the center of your base. If you end up putting off to the edge, it might create a new one, but it should jump to the new one I made before it links up to that other one again.

No Good, i still end up at the red stone facility when i go through either of the portals in the nether.
It's just the way the algorithms work for the nether portals.
My portal in my castle and the one at the facility are simply too close.

I'm gonna move mine further away.
My castle is expanding so i'll try another spot.

Seriously? I built one right at the center of your castle and I swear it worked.

Where in your castle is the nether portal. I can 100% guarantee I can make it work.

...maybe the Redstone one is the screwy one. I should have checked that.

Yeah, the redstone one is the screwy one.
According to the entries on the minecraft wiki and various places about how the portals work, i am almost certain it is to blame.

My portal is in the sub-basement of my castle, though again, according to what i have read, height makes little to no difference.

The one in the nether wasn't lit. It's on now and each one hooks up to the right building.

I also moved it up a little and started to connect it to a more direct route to Spawn. I'll probably eventually try to do more that way than the stupid dangerous roads I made.

Yeah! it works now!
I can go to and from the nether from my portal in the sub-basement of my castle! that's a huge relief.
Thanks for your effort Super!

Not your fault. Thanks again!

I've built a small fort around the nether end of my portal, so i don't immediately get attacked by ghasts whose fireballs disable the portal lol.

Also i spent some time there. Went to the nether fortress i knew of. Killed 2 wither skeletons. No skulls so far.
They are terrifying.

Nice. I don't know if I've even seen one yet.

I kind of suck in the nether. As long as I'm tunneling or cocooning myself in cobble, I'm fine. If I get off the path, I die in minutes.

I live in constant fear when i'm in the nether.

I try to avoid large open spaces in favour of small open spaces to avoid ghasts.
Also the new changes to lighting, where if you're in an area of low light your view distance is reduced, makes it even more dangerous. Also it doesn't make sense.
Why can i not see something giving off light in the distance unless i'm standing near a light source? Really it should be the opposite.

My only solace is the zombie pigmen. They leave you alone if you don't attack them.
They're like slightly more dangerous villagers.

Also yeah, wither skeletons are scary. Only have to kill, what, 1198 more to get the skulls we need to make a wither?
