The four of us descend to the lowest levels of the world, cast in eternal darkness. It is here that we will breach the walls between this world and the next.
Even surrounded by 100s of torches, we cannot see more than a few feet in front of our faces. We have to stay close or risk losing the rest of the party. While much of this area has been secured, there is no guarantee that monsters do not lurk in the darkness.
We each don matching armor and brandish matching diamond swords and make our way through the dark towards the sound of the nether portal.
We take one last look at this world, well aware of the dangers we are about to face, and plunge through purple mist.
We find ourselves in a world covered in fire and lava. We see strange pig-like creatures that seem to make this place their home. They are grotesque, but seem content to leave us in peace.
Without any notice a giant white creature descends from the ceiling, hurling fireballs from it's monstrous mouth. We quickly dig out a shelter and hide. After a time, we decide this is a threat we must deal with if we ever want to return home, much less spend any time in this world. We dig tunnels through the hellish earth and attack the creature from strategic positions.
After a fierce battle, the monster is slain. However, in our fight, we seem to have inadvertently injured one of the pig monsters. They retaliate by attacking one of our own. As we defend our comrade, we only draw more of the angry pig men to our position. We are quickly swarmed and outnumbered. Though we ultimately drive off the attack, it is not without the grave wounding of one of our party. He is forced to recuperate as the rest of us attempt to cobble together a temporary shelter.
Time has no meaning in this world, we could have been down there for weeks for all I know, but it seems that we have adapted to this hostile environment in a matter of days. Fierce monsters that would have slaughtered us in heartbeat back in the overworld soon no longer posed a threat to us. The constant danger surrounding us had forced us to evolve.
We find that many of the materials we brought from our own world afford us protection here. Simple stone is completely resistant to the attacks of the ghastly flying creatures. We begin to construct a structure to protect ourselves. We are becoming quite cozy here in the nether. We even seem to have mended relations with the pig men and have entered a fragile truce.
As we grow more comfortable in our surroundings, we begin to explore our surroundings. We spread out and gather rare materials never seen on our world. Before long we stumble upon a large ancient structure. While it seems to be inhabited by the pig men, they do not seem to be sophisticated enough to have built it themselves. Who had the ability to build this castle right in the midst of a lava lake? It is mostly empty other than a few strange plants that we gather for further study.
Ultimately unimpressed, we leave the structure and explore even further while also continuing to fortify our positions. As we ventured even further, we found more of these abandoned structures. Though we have no reason to think they will yield anything of value, we explore them. Not 100 meters in the structure, we find a room pouring our beings made of flame.
We may think we have become powerful, but it is clear that this world still holds surprises even for us. We retreat to the safety of our nether base for the time being and recuperate.
