The next release will have Emerald.

It will be mineable, but very rare. It's mainly used for trading with villagers. So it sounds like you'll mostly get them when you give villages stuff.

Yeah,  there's some villager buying 20 paper for an emerald and we have a reed farm going at Spawn. So my cousin has been trading like crazy.
