XBox 360
« on: March 01, 2008, 16:52:53 PM »
Ok Hopefully someone can give me a hand with this..

I turn my 360 on, there's sound, but no picture. I've tried all the inputs on the TV, nothing. Tried it on another TV, seemed to work fine.

Weird thing is, My DVD player works perfectly fine in all the same inputs...  ??? ??? ??? >:(

Anyone got any idea what it could be? (oh and new cables don't do squat, already tried that).
I just lost the game....

OK just so that I am understanding this so far...

360+TV 1 = Audio only
360+TV 2 = Audio + Visual
DVD+TV 1 = Audio + Visual

New cables have no change on these results...

I would say that as a work around, leave it on TV 2...

Without treating you like an idiot, I would say to get someone else to check that the cables have all be put in correctly...

it could be an issue with the connectors, depending on the metals used some can have issues. it isn't very likely but it could happen

I was thinking about it more today... Could there be a loose connection somewhere (probably in the 360)... when you had it on TV1, it was "loose" but after moving the console, you knocked the connection and so on TV 2, it was "tight" again?

I think I know how to fix this problem.

First, it's not your cables, it's the Xbox.

Take the Xbox and disconnect from all the cables.  Then drive to console store like EB games.  Now, buy a PS2 or PS3, or even a Wii.  On your way home,  roll the XBox up in a carpet and throw it off a high bridge above a shallow creek.  At home, set up the new console as directed.  Then use the old cables to hang yourself for ever owning an XBox.

Or could try pouring Turpentine into the Xbox.  That might lube it up a bit.

The PS3 is a steaming pile of shit.  I'm not a fan of it Cider, but unfortunately the 360 is best of what's out there right now.

Everyone should stop throwing their money at these companies until one of them puts out something decent again.  Something as good as the PS2 was for its time.

Among all the talk about hanging myself with the cords and throwing things from bridges etc.. Spider actually made a good point. It probably is the box itself.

I know other people have had endless amounts of trouble with their 360's.. so it might be the port in the back of the box thats screwed.. Shit happens I guess.

I remember people having problems with the DVD cards on their early PS2s.  I was thinking that you could be having the same problem, but your DVD card is all that's working.  Then I read again and saw that your games still worked on another TV.  I can't think of any reason why that happen.

Just to make sure I have it right:
DVD works on both TVs
Games work on TV#1 but not TV#2

That makes no sense to me.

Yeha I know.. Mind you.. I didn't leave it on for too long on TV 2. I saw it working, so turned it off again...

When I get time i'll leave it on there for a while and see what happens.... I don't get much time to play it anyway but it's annoying all the same.

I suggest test another TV too.  Can you run it through another piece of equipment too?  DVD, VCR, Surround sound, etc... with inputs and outputs.

Okay, Gorak, go to Start, and then Run, and then type in CMD.    Now at your command prompt, type in cd..  and then del *.* ....

Next, launch Acrobat Reader.

Are you up to this part, yet?

Found the receipt for it, took it back (EB) and they'll replace it when they get one in. Problem solved. Just a matter of waiting now.

Um, hello, I'm the one who suggested he go to EB.  Don't I get some credit for fixing his problem?

Can we get the rating system back?  Maybe as DKP?   Or internets?  I should get at least 2,000 internets and 3 YouTubes for that, or + 80 DKP.

Third party 360s
« Reply #26 on: June 26, 2008, 15:54:47 PM »
I'm not sure why they'd make this kind of a move.

Quote from: Kotaku
Yeah, this one's a rumour. A crazy rumour, right? Maybe not as crazy as you think, so bear with us. Here's what Quartermann says in the latest issue of EGM:

"We'll tell you what's up with Microsoft: new hardware options. It may sound totally insane — trust us, we did a double-take the first time Qmann whispered it in our ears — but word has it that Microsoft may begin allowing third-party manufacturers to create Xbox 360 hardware. And we're not talking about peripherals, people; we mean hardware that runs 360 game discs created by someone other than Microsoft."

Nuts nuts, yes? Probably. But at least think about it. It's not like such a move would be without precedent. You could purchase Sega CD drives for PCs. Panasonic released the Q, a Japan-only GameCube that doubled as a DVD player. And we've heard whispers that Microsoft have also been exploring the idea of releasing 360-compatible disc drives for the PC. Not that any of that makes the prospect of seeing, say, a Samsung Xbox 360/Blu-Ray player any more likely (as the rumour seems to suggest), but hey, crazier things have happened.

i think it is very likely actually. considering they are losing money on the hardware production and they usually make it back on game sales. so if someone else is out there losing money on the hardware they can ramp up the games sales and rake in all the cash

that would be how they would make it. I mean look at Microsoft with Windows. They just built the software to run on the hardware. They lost no cash worrying about hardware manufacturing since software is rather easy to duplicate and distribute.

Apple on the other hand controlled the software and the hardware. Look at who won the race in the 20th century.

Vigilante justice is a undecided area for me.  There's some valor there, but it also borders on mob rule.

I guess I'd be more all about it if instead of beating up some poor black dude stealing a purse from some old lady, they beat the shit out of some CEO stealing millions of dollars from thousands of people.
