dude, they've remade pokemon on the DS like 6 or 8 times (as they come out in twos) - I see no reason to "wait" for the 3DS, as they can make another 8 on that one too.

No they haven't. Pokemon games come in generations based on the story, the graphics, the game play and the number of pokemon.

Gen 1 - Game Boy - Red, Blue, Yellow - 151 pokemon
Gen 2 - Game Boy Colour - Gold, Silver, Crystal - 251 pokemon
Gen 3 - Game Boy Advance - Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Fire Red & Leaf Green (Gen 1 remakes) - 386 Pokemon
Gen 4 - Nintendo DS - Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold & SoulSilver (Gen 2 remakes) - 493 Pokemon

There are also additional games, such as Pinball, TCG and Mystery Dungeon that appear once in a while. They are listed by gen depending on the number of pokemon in them. All the gens have been preceeded by a small number of pokemon from that generation appearing (or starring) in a movie about them excep gen 1, where the movie came second to the game. Pokemon from Black & White appeared in the 13th movie.

Actually, I didn't. Nor did I watch the TV show (which ran at 7am on weekdays here. I would be up at 7 and had to leave by 7:40 to get to school on time). I just played the games a lot and kept up to date with the rumour mill through places like Bulbapedia.
