NCsoft Sued for Patent Infringement
« on: December 15, 2010, 17:53:55 PM »

Mass.-based online company Worlds.com is suing NCsoft for infringing on a patent that seems to lay claim to fundamental aspects of MMO games.

Worlds.com said in its December 24 court filing that South Korea's NCsoft has infringed on U.S. patent 7,181,690, a "System and method for enabling users to interact in a virtual space."

I'm sorry, that sounds a lot like the Internet. Has Worlds.com patented the Internet?
LOL @ Pam... if I had $20 for every time someone used that word with me... well....

I'd probably have like $60

I'm sure there is more detail in a patent than that. Look.   It refers specifically to MMO games that fit the model in the picture attached (lifted from the patent).  Which is a fucktonne to be sure, but not the whole internet.  The internet won't look like that until Hackers 3.

Is that really lifted from the patent? Sorry, I believe you, but...

Anyway, it sounds just like all MMOs, and the article said that Worlds.com intended to sue other MMO creators. Interesting. It's interesting to realise just what can be patented and upheld. Like genes.

Well, yeah, kinda like how it's "interesting" that they used to have trucks roaming the streets spraying people with DDT just for that extra boost. God, we're stupid. Imagine how future generations will wonder how we survived mobile telephony and litigation?

Well, today we also have overuse of antibiotics and spraying every fucking thing with Glen 20 while glooping our hands in antibacterial hand goo.   But maybe that's not it.   Maybe it's the fluoride in the water.  Or maybe not.  Perhaps vaccinations are giving us neurological diseases.   Or maybe not.   Who knows?  Maybe none of it.  Maybe everything.  It's very exciting to wait and find out.   If we live to old age, we should come back to this thread and talk about what ended up happening.  It'd be trippy.

You're sick.

But I am interested by the scenarios that came to your mind. These are all things I tend to avoid. Except for tap water, but I will return to filtered water.

I don't think most of your standard water filters can do something as fancy as filter out fluoride anions.  Brita filters sure can't.   I don't know.  Again, Denise is away and I'm too tired to google so this we may never know.  I don't even know if fluoride is a problem.  Between tap water and mouthwash I expose myself to a lot of fluoride every day and I'm ... slowly....  dying...     hmmm.

Yay for regular soap over anti-bacterial goo.

You avoid vaccinations?

I was vaccinated against several things as a child, but not many. For example, I had no chicken pox vaccine, and I've still never had chicken pox. The chance of ill side-effects are very small, but still too large for me to comfortable with the idea.

I have no idea what the ill side-effects you're referring to are, what the chances of them are and what the comfort threshold is for that sort of thing, but I do know that if you ever get chicken pox, I want you to call me immediately.  I hear it is waaaaaay worse for adults than kids and I'd love to stand at your bedside laughing maniacally at your suffering.

Yeah, I've heard the same, so here's hoping that I never get the pox.
On a side note, I now can never open envelopes sent from you.

In Spider's example above, and I the only one to note that Count Bond is not PRESENT? There are two penguins talking, and friggin CB muscles in and goes all stalker, enema of that state on them.

Fear not the internets, or the lulz. Fear Count Bond.
I used to think piracy was bad, because I first heard about it by people who didn't understand it. I understand piracy now. Piracy is good.

If I ever discover I am not the lord of the under realm, I shall rename myself Count Bond.
