Hellgate: London (PC)
« on: August 13, 2008, 03:49:38 AM »
For those of you wanking over Diablo 3, might I suggest trying out Hellgate: London?  It's made by the team that worked on the first Diablo.  They split off to make their own game when they needed a little more creative freedom than Blizzard would allow.

The story is set in the future.  Daemons have crossed over into our world and a small band of fighters have to drive them back.

At its heart it's a hack and slash just like Diablo.  Plus they added in some guns.  It's not just a top down either.  It can be first or third person and the third person can be adjusted quite a bit depending on your preference.  It's not amazingly innovative, but really neither is Diablo 2 or 3.  At least this is more than just some expanded classes and updated graphics.

Terrible game, it really is. Everything I have heard about this game (apart from this) says it is made of suck and fail. As such, I will roll with popular opinion an slander it some more.

Bad, bad, terrible, shitty, pewp on a stick.

No but seriously, most of what I've seen about this has been terrible, I've not actually played it but whatever.

An amazing review.  I must remember to seek out your opinion in the future.

I've played it a bit and I'm really enjoying it, as much as you can enjoy a hack and slash anyway.

I have a better classification too.  It's a hack and slash crossed with a FPS.  I still think it's an interesting set up.  I'm having fun with it.

I have noticed some bugginess too.  I'm not sure if it's the game or if it's my computer.  This is the first time in five years that I've had a computer that can play current releases much less at any level of quality, so I've been bumping the hell out of the settings.  Maybe I should turn them back down a little and see if that helps.
