For anyone that plays Half Life, TF2, Portal, Left 4 Dead, Counter Strike, or any other game that is runs through Steam, we now have a Lankyland group on Steam.  Come on over.

Steam is an evil conspiracy to destroy the 2nd hand games market and I will have none of it.

I don't disagree with you, but I've never sold back any game before and I have no plans of doing so in the future.  The old game sitting on my shelf collecting dust is worth more to me than the $5 I'd get for it.

It was mostly for Pam as she just got Portal.

Even better!  To celebrate Steam launching on Mac, Steam is giving away Portal for free.

http://store.steampowered.com/freeportal/

It's free until May 24th.  Get on it.

I registered and got it, when I have a computer powerful enough to play Portal I'll DL.
I used to think piracy was bad, because I first heard about it by people who didn't understand it. I understand piracy now. Piracy is good.

Steam has some good deals going. Although I hear that it's annoying to use Steam.
E.g. Elder Scrolls Pack
Includes 2 items: The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind® Game of the Year Edition, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion® Game of the Year Edition Deluxe
$15 USD

Quakecon Pack 2011
Includes 34 items: BRINK, Call of Cthulhu®: Dark Corners of the Earth, Commander Keen, DOOM 3, DOOM 3 Resurrection of Evil, DOOM II, Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition, Fallout New Vegas: Dead Money, Fallout New Vegas: Honest Hearts, Fallout New Veg...
$70 USD
LOL @ Pam... if I had $20 for every time someone used that word with me... well....

I'd probably have like $60

I love Steam so much.

My roommate bought that $70 pack. I think mostly for the special TF2 rocket launcher.

As I understand it, you must be running the Steam program in order to play your games. So what happens when Steam is down and you just want to play some single player on your own computer?

Doesn't seem right to me.

That said, there are some neat, cheap, apparently awesome games available only through Steam. And Magicka is the first game to make me consider it. In fact, if I can get anyone else interested (I know that greensteam will play once he upgrades his computer) then I will dive in, too. It looks like fun in multiplayer. Simplish learning curve.

You can set up your games to play in offline mode. I don't know the details, but I've heard it isn't too hard. I don't think I've even been unable to play a game, but that doesn't mean it's not a possibility.

The idea of the always online thing, is that you can then play your games anywhere you are, as long as you can log in as you. It's also an anti-piracy thing, of course. If you aren't playing on different computers, just set up your games for offline mode and you're good to go.

Well, as long as Steam's DRM doesn't prevent me from legitimately playing a game that I've purchased...

I've never had any problems with it except that it's given them an easy way to entice me with games that I don't really have time to play.

Oh, don't forget to come find the Lankyland group on there. I think it's just Lanky and me right now.

Yah, I already checked it out. And yes, it's just you and Lanky. So, at the moment, our joint gaming priority seems to be like this:

1. Minecraft
2. Diablo II (once we get our arses into gear)
3. Magicka (if we buy the game and are able to play it)

Also, I suppose I appreciate Blizzard a lot: I have Warcraft II, Starcraft and Warcraft III... all of which I enjoy.

And currently, I'm playing a lot of TF2. So yeah, I need to get MC back up and then figure out when we can all be online at the same time for Diablo.

I have Star Craft around somewhere. That would be awesome.

Greensteam let me know the summer sale is up on Steam. I don't have any money, but there are some great deals. Portal 2 and a bunch of other greats are down to $5. I'll be picking up New Vegas, but I'm trying to decide if I want any of the games they have it in packs with too. It's like $25 for the game plus DLC. It's $50 for the full New Vegas, Skyrim (won't run on my current computer), Brink (no interest), and some other games I don't know.

I spent about an hour looking around and even really stretching it, I couldn't find more than $35 worth of games I wanted. ...please telling me I'm probably sick or something and not growing up.
