http://www.cybernations.net/

Been playing this for over a year now, and love it. My friends are on it too - it's free and kinda complex, involving politics and alliances (even has a wiki!  http://cybernations.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page). We just got out of the GPA war (http://cybernations.wikia.com/wiki/Woodstock_Massacre) and now we're rebuilding.

The downside is that the server updates once a day, so its something you'd spend 5-10 mins a day doing, and slowly get more and more into it.

I used to think piracy was bad, because I first heard about it by people who didn't understand it. I understand piracy now. Piracy is good.

So I spent a total of two days playing and then forgot all about the game.

Then I was talking to Hades about a month ago and he talked me into it again.  Wow.  This is an awesome game.

In my first week I got demolished by two nations at once.  It was pretty bad.  Poor Hades lost some cash on a tech deal we had going.  Then he finally got me to join up with his alliance.  To say those guys are helpful would be quite an understatement.  Within a week of joining I got attacked by another tech raider.  This time I actually knew what I was doing and knocked the asshole back to the stone ages.  So amazingly satisfactory.

What's your nation Phazz?

Mine is Buccania

Hades is Katonia

We're both members of IRON.

Lanky, get out of peace mode.  You'll grow a lot faster.  You don't have to worry about getting attacked.  If anyone attacks you, IRON will send three more guys to curb stomp him.

Then don't forget to collect taxes and pay bills at least once a week.

Spend a good chunk of your money on infrastructure.  That's what makes you money.

Then look for the red alerts at the top of your "view nation" page.  It will tell you if you need more soldiers or land.

Also try to keep build up at least a few days worth of taxes to save as you war chest.  It's less important now, but be aware that you'll want money on hand later on.

Hey Lanky, I think I found a place for you to pick up some nice starter funds.

I've been wailing on this guy for the last week, but he's dropped well out of my range now.  The new guy's war is about to expire and they need someone new to declare really soon.

Just go to this thread and request permission to declare.  Also explain that your nation is new and you'll need a little aid.  Pretty much anyone low enough to attack him at this point is going to need aid anyway, so I think they'll understand.

After you've declared and after they send you aid, buy up to 50 tech and a few planes.  Then do your two cruise missile attacks, two air attacks, and two ground attacks every day.  Of course he has no troops left, so only the first ground attack will do any damage each day.

Oh, and don't react to any message he sends.  Forward it on to the forum with your battle reports, but do respond to him or do anything he asks.  The guy is a moron.

I did the math and you're actually about 50 NS too low.  Do you think you bump it up just a bit?  I think if you could get to the level where you can declare, the war aid would end up as a nice little bump for your nation.

Well I'm trying to get there. I left it a few days without doing anything and the bills ended up being more than I made through taxes. So I raised the tax rate to 28%, made the money, paid the bills and dropped the rate again to keep everyone happy.

Happiness only matters at the time you're collecting taxes.

Here's one that should be in your range.

This guy is open as of tomorrow and he's going to get away from us.  Any chance you  can build up just a bit?  He might actually be in your range now.  It would be an awesome favor to us so he won't get away, he doesn't have anything to fight back with anyway, and I'm sure you can get some cash out of the deal.

Just post in the forum:

"Requesting permission to declare and attack.

I'm brand new so I don't have any money.  Is there any chance I can get enough aid to cause some damage?"

When I first joined I lagged on joining an alliance.  I got double teamed right away and beat up pretty bad.  Then I joined up with IRON.  About a week after I got attacked again.  I didn't get any financial help or team mates joining in, but knowing that I had that back up available helped me go all out.  Here's the result.  You can see at 2/2 where he attacked me.  I spent the first two days beating the snot out of him.  Then the big jump at 2/4 is where I splurged with all the money I jacked from him.  He started dropping a little faster after that.

Playing, though? No. I don't touch it.
