Guinness (Dry Stout)
« on: March 05, 2011, 09:11:33 AM »
After trying the attached (fail), I drank the whiskey as a shot and then enjoyed the beer.

Looks
If you've drank beer, you've probably tried Guinness. It's dark and thick and creamy; about a finger of head when it settles, and it's good very cold - or at least it pours better and looks more sexy. Drink this, and you're instantly cooler than any man holding a bud light in the room.

Taste
Roasted and has a chocolate malt. Not really any strong smells that I noticed, apart from my nose which told me "yep - it's beer!"

Bonus
Baby Hades didn't seem that interested, she liked the empty plastic shot glass though. No bonus.

Overall
Drinkable, classy, and Irish. B+ or 4/5

I used to think piracy was bad, because I first heard about it by people who didn't understand it. I understand piracy now. Piracy is good.

I loves me some Guinness. I may have a strong German ancestry. They may have invented beer. But the British Isles turned beer into something I love. (Don't get too happy Hades. I'll take Irish over English 9 times out of 10.)

Can you list 9 good Irish brews? Bet you can list 10 good English ones. Or at least, I can. Haha.

I'm afraid I don't have a picture for this, but I do have the story intact.

Few years ago I was in England, and was looking at different drinks to try and one day I bought a 6-pack of Guinness.  I waited for a nice afternoon and when Top Gear was on.  I poured myself a cup of tea in case I didn't like it.  I take off the cap, and smell it.  Yeah this is beer.  I take a sip and was astounded by the bitter taste, didn't like it at all.  After the first sip I wanted to stop, but thought that was unfair and drank 1/3rd before giving up.

I knew I wasn't going to finish it so I thought, "I'll experiment and see if I can make it better."  I go into the kitchen and look around for what to use and conclude two things could help make it less bitter.

I took the bottle to the sink, and I poured one in, then the other. It bubbled and started to foam out of the bottle.  Good thing I took it to the sink, now for the taste.  Nope, still bad, I'm sure I made it worse.

The two ingredients?

I've learned from my mistake, it won't happen again.  The other five bottles I gave to my friend I was staying with, so they weren't harmed.

My taste buds say alcohol ruins the taste of drinks.  The only drink I liked was a white rum and lemonade but that was probably the lemonade.  Mixed drinks are probably the only drinks I'll ever enjoy.

You made a mistake, greensteam, but you were close. There are indeed two ingredients that you add to Guinness for power and longer sex.

Condensed milk and an egg. Blend it up and enjoy.
LOL @ Pam... if I had $20 for every time someone used that word with me... well....

I'd probably have like $60

Milk and sugar isn't such a bad idea. Ever had a Guinness float? Good times.

Sorry, greensteam, but Guinness from a can does not count.

edit: nor a bottle.

It doesn't count for what?  It was a small 6-pack of bottles.

Yeah, I've drunk Guinness in a can or bottle and it made me want to die.   Drinking it on tap when it's ice cold and poured properly is completely different.

Well, and it's a dry as all hell stout. If you're used to thinking of American lagers as beer (they're not), even Guinness from the tap isn't going to taste right.

I don't know Greensteam's history with beer, but I'd go back and start with some lighter ales and work your way towards porters and stouts. The path to enlightenment is long and drunk.

There was this monk who had a dream he was a butterfly. When he woke up, he wondered if he was a butterfly dreaming he was a man. I like your enlightenment path a LOT more.

I can't remember if that was the first alcoholic drink I tried or if it was a Budweiser which I think was a normal one, not a bud light.  Either way the Budweiser didn't taste that good.  It didn't slap me like Guinness did with bitter but I didn't want another one after.

I've tried a peach ale, at a pub with my friend I tried a Merlot which I didn't like either.  I think I already mentioned I tried at the same pub on a different day a white rum and lemonade which I think I liked because it had lemonade in it.  Oh I also tried an Asahi which helped me realize I don't like anything dry.  I couldn't or rather didn't want to finish it.

I think that was most of it, I could be forgetting a few, but my entire small alcoholic experience was in England a few years ago.

Oh god this thread is terrible.  All I want is a beer right now.  My tongue is pining for it.  Guinness would be nice, but anything would do.  Oh that cold yeasty flavoursome brew...   mmmm.... the nice light head buzz...   mmmm...    It's 8:54am and I'm wondering if the Orchard serves alcohol at this time.

 :bitchslap:  ahhh, that's better.
